Everybody, this is my father, Young Sun Song. Behold his campy jacket coupled with a tight smile beneath the awe inspiring wilderness. The eyes holding a soft resignation that life is truly one to be carefully thought out. The wisdom in the small portions of his hair turning gray, while the black simply stating that he has more energy. (Or at least that's what those Just For Men commercials teach). Clearly this is no ordinary man, with no ordinary life. This is a man destined to live something very differently.
And so he has. In his late 20's/early 30's (Depending on which version of the story that I hear)....this man went out in search of the American dream. Leaving a cushy job working for the mighty Hyundai corporation (To which my dad swears loyalty towards the quality of its vehicles), he packed it all up and moved to a new land. With naught but a squant amount of money in his pocket, he enrolled into Talbott Theological Seminary in search of a life dedicated to ministry and a dream. He eventually found success in Maryland, leaving once again the cushy Pastoral Ministry in California for the cushy position as a Bethel Associate Pastor, when God called him out to start a new church in Columbia. Once there, it took root, and now has become a ministry of 1,000 members, growing and serving the Lord together.
Yes, clearly this is no ordinary man, and thus such an extraordinary man deserves nothing less than the most extraordinary family phone plan.
You see, my father signed a contractual agreement with Verizon that lasted for several years, and was renewed again and again. At the time, I was but a young 20 years old, waiting for the opportunity to be released so that I may be able to pave my own way into adulthood with my own phone plan. My dad complied, and thus was to release me from my phone plan this year.
And then suddenly, about three weeks ago, the moment arrived.
"Son (As he likes to call me instead of my real name) You have to find your own phone in two weeks. Our contract with Verizon expires on January 21st. You are now FREE"
Much rejoicing ensued. My own phone plan??? Paid for by myself??? What a wonderful sense of liberation! I quickly went online and searched for the most capable phone that would be necessary. I consulted many a friend and family member, even the great Young Sun Song himself, who continually reminded me that an iPhone would be the best choice, because by his clearly reasoned logic "Droid is no good". I was on my way to being into the narrow way of independence and self reliance. Life was going to be more normal.
But like I said before, Young Sun Song is no normal man. Nor does he have a normal phone plan.
For you see, on January 21st, I was about to walk out the door and head to the phone store. My excitement building, my friends in anticipation of what I would be getting, and with an exurberant attitude I was boldly stepping forth. I called my dad to let him know of my plans to purchase a new phone and a new plan, when a soft resignation in his voice told me that there was news to be had. Seeing this is the great Young Sun Song I was talking to, I knew that I must listen to his every word:
"Uhhhh son. You shouldn't go to get the new phone. I think you should stay at home"
"Why should I, oh wise and sagacious father?"
"Um. I looked at our contract with Verizon. I thought the paper said January 21st....but after looking at it today...it actually says July 21st. So no phone for 6 months, okay? Sorry. Bye."
Ladies and Gentleman. This is no ordinary man. I present to you again, Mr. Young Sun Song.

Part 3 to come in July.
