A calming thought

Ahhh the prosperity gospel. Such a hot button to press in today's society. So much anger arises , and with good measure. It really does seem like a losing war, with mega churches popping up with promises of blessing disguised as truth, and thousands upon thousands throwing their lives away with such drivel.

But everytime I get angry about such things, I'm reminded once again of its ridiculously hilarious nature through the power of late-night Prosperity programming. For those of you who havn't been exposed to this, its a riveting combination of questionable biblical messaging interspersed by making you feel compassionate for something that they promise to use the money for, and in doing so, getting some sort of seed promise in return. The seed offering turns into fruit of something of some kind, and then you get a harvest.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense to me either.

Good thing that I'm not the only one who finds humor in this. It appears that Secular-Austrailian-Late-Night-Comedy-Variety shows(Try saying that three times fast) have also caught the hypocrisy of it all. And the funny part is...they used actual clips of the sermons, and just let it run. Pure comedy. With people such as these representing Prosperity Gospel......I have little less to worry about the longevity of this movement. And that makes me laugh. God wins.

  1. Dah this video is so infuriating. The fact of the matter is that as rediculous as it sounds even in terms of logic and common sense, so many people are falling into for this crap. It's such a gross perversion of the word of God and I hate how we are identified by jokers like that.

  2. Yeah I totally agree.....although I'm not entirely sure that everyone outside of Christianity associates this WITH Christianity, it's comforting to know that even non-Christians can see right through the lies as well. And with people like this, it isn't even hard to see right through it :-)

    I just feel like this is a fad that will see it's end....God will pass his judgement and we will still be standing. That's why I really don't view this movement as much of a threat as others. Our victory is in Christ. Their victory is in...uhhh..."a harvest". Who's gonna last longer? Game, set, match.

  3. To Joe: That lame excuse for "exegesis" with Hebrew "dabar" (word/thing) is typical of many churches these days.

    To Johnny: Will health and welfare gospel end? I'm not certain, but it will probably evolve into something else and infect a whole new generation of believers like the common cold --;;
